Simple cataloging interface

Description: C & P Bibliography Services proposes to create a simple cataloging interface which hides the complexity of MARC behind a citation manager-style entry screen. Although work was begun on this (see [1]), more work is needed for a fully-functional finished project. For the initial interface, C & P proposes providing space for the following fields:
  • Author (looked up in Authority file) (a choice will be given between personal, corporate, and meeting authorship) = MARC21 field 100 or 110
  • Title (this could be parsed into parts based on ISBD punctuation, or there could be separate fields for Title, Subtitle, and Remainder of Title; this field should be "clonable" to add varying forms of the title) = MARC21 fields 245 and 246
  • Publication City = MARC21 field 260$a
  • Publisher = MARC21 field 260$b
  • Date = MARC21 field 008/7-10 and 260$c
  • Language (dropdown) = MARC21 field 008/35-37
  • Pagination = MARC21 field 300$a
  • Size = MARC21 field 300$c
  • Subjects (looked up in Authority file) = MARC21 field 650
  • General Notes = MARC21 field 500
  • Provenance Notes = MARC21 field 561
  • Binding Notes = MARC21 field 563

The initial implementation will be MARC21-only, although it will be written to be as format-agnostic as possible. In order to indicate that records created using this editor are probably not correct (indicators are not copied from authority records, so at least that will certainly be incorrect), LDR/17 will be set to 5.
